Vermont Fire Training Academy // Pittsford, Vermont

The Vermont Fire Training Academy, a part of the Division of Fire Safety within the Department of Public Safety, is located at the Pittsford campus which is also home to the State Police Barracks.  The new 7,772 sf one-story building includes staff offices, administrative support areas, instructional classrooms, a conference room, and circulation areas, and is located near hands-on training functions thereby enabling more efficient trainee movement from classroom to hands-on-training sites.

This facility incorporates numerous green building strategies and technologies to optimize energy efficiency, provide a healthy indoor environment, and use materials in a resourceful manner.  Design elements included a flexible ventilation system to allow individual control of spaces and ample natural lighting in occupied spaces.

The project was developed with a special focus on energy efficiency and High Performance Design.  The facility is LEED™ Silver Certified in consideration of the State of Vermont’s goal of environmental sustainability for its buildings and infrastructure.  Design considerations also included reduction of construction waste and use of environmentally conscious products and finishes.
