Dore & Whittier was selected to complete a Master Plan for the Town’s public safety facilities. As the Town had determined that the Fire Department could adequately continue to service the new University Station development from Islington Center, D&W explored numerous options involving multiple properties at the busy intersection of Washington and School Streets in the Islington section of Town.

Our Feasibility Study for the Town’s two fire stations and police station resulted in a public safety improvement plan which proposed a sequential upgrade beginning with a new fire station in Islington followed by a new police station at the existing site and a renovation/addition project at the Fire Headquarters.

Fire Station No. 2 in Islington was razed and apparatus, equipment and personnel were temporarily relocated. A new 3-bay station is was completed this Fall. The station was designed to set a tone for anticipated future development and architectural upgrades in the community. A new police station will replace the existing at its current location. A renovation/addition plan for the Fire Headquarters (No. 1) will follow next year to complete the multi-year upgrades with a design informed by the adjacent and historic Town Hall.
