Center Fire Station // Groton, Massachusetts

The Dore + Whittier and CR architecture + design team was hired to conduct a Feasibility Study and Site Analysis for the new Center Fire Station.

After obtaining voter approval to acquire the 2.8-acre site as well as fund the design and construction, we developed plans for a two-story station with four drive-through apparatus bays. Once an emergency response time study confirmed that the location was suitable for fire and emergency response, Dore + Whittier developed building design concepts to conform to the agrarian nature of this rural community. The project required significant interaction with the Town, the Landmark Preservation Trust (landowner), the Historic Commission and residents, and ultimately received overwhelming support.

The LEED™ Certifiable design follows the Massachusetts Stretch Energy Code and incorporates green features such as rainwater collection.
