For too long, cramped quarters and an adverse physical environment challenged the departments, contributed to operational inefficiencies and created unsafe and uncomfortable conditions.

D&W was retained to design a new combined fire/police station on the site of the existing facility.  Following a groundbreaking ceremony in May 2015, a phased solution began with a demolition of the apparatus bays to make way for the administration and core spaces, and completed with the razing of the remaining building and construction of the new bays.

The project cost was less than budgeted by 15% and was completed in a remarkable 16-months due to the collaboration among the Permanent Building Committee and project team led by Dore & Whittier Architects, as well as the efforts of Fire Chief Bill Kingsbury and Police Chief Bob Meany.
