After many years of planning and collaboration with the Connecticut State Firefighters Association, local and state representatives, the new Dore & Whittier-designed Fairfield Regional Fire School officially opened on May 16, 2017.
In 1965, the Town of Fairfield acquired the former Nike missile radar control site from the U.S. Government. The Fairfield Fire Department initially established a training center at the location and was officially recognized as a regional fire training school in 1971. The School operates not only for the Fairfield FD Training Division, but is used by other town departments, State agencies and neighboring fire departments in exchange for support from the State of Connecticut.
The new FRFS campus now includes a 14,000+ sf classroom, administration and 3-bay apparatus building (with vehicle maintenance and training mezzanine), a new 3-story class A burn building allowing numerous realistic live fire scenarios, a rehabilitated 4-story tower and burn building with engineered anchors for technical rope rescue work, a pumper draft station, and numerous LPG training props, all designed to enhance the firefighters’ skills and training.
