We are designers and leaders, but first we are humans, with an enduring dedication to the environment and to one another.

Integrated Design

Endless potential happens at the intersection of learning and place. Our educational environments inspire curiosity, discovery, and multigenerational collaboration.

K-12 Education

Clear communication, strong partnerships, and a collaborative leadership model result in the most inclusive and efficient project.

Owner’s Project Management

We leverage design’s capacity to bolster occupants’ physical and mental health and wellness, optimizing the way people live, work, learn, and play.

Commercial

We take our cue from our surroundings—the pulse of the neighborhood, the story and traditions of the people, and the patterns found in the natural landscape.

Public Safety

We value and invite diverse voices, backgrounds, and viewpoints. Our differences make us stronger. Our unique perspectives make us human.

The new Norfolk Fire Station represents more than The new Norfolk Fire Station represents more than a modern facility—it’s a community investment in safety, firefighter health and welfare, sustainability, and long-term performance.

Fully electric and Net-Zero Energy Ready, the station was the first fire station accepted into the MassSave Pathway 1 ZNE-Ready program and the first to meet the program’s ambitious EUI target, setting a new benchmark for climate-conscious public safety design in New England.

Designed in harmony with the surrounding neighborhood and local historic architectural character, the station provides a resilient, future-focused home for Norfolk’s fire department and the community it serves.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our colleague and friend, Marjorie Dickstein.

Marjorie was an integral part of the Dore + Whittier family for 11 years, during which time she brought exceptional dedication, professionalism, and rigor to every task and every interaction. Whether leading our specifications development, actively participating in the IDEA group, being an integral part of the senior associates, mentoring others, or sharing encouraging words with co-workers, Marjorie embodied the spirit of collaboration and integrity that defines our team and sought excellence not just in the work we produce, but in how we go about doing it.

Outside the office, Marjorie was actively engaged in the profession, lending her expertise and critical insight to wide range of committees, boards, and organizations. Marjorie had served on her local design review board, the regional planning committee, and as a Board member of @aiavermont. She was also engaged with the regional CSI chapter and USGBC, helping to draft questions for the LEED AP exam.

Marjorie will be remembered for her compassion, dry sense of humor, and the genuine care she showed for everyone around her. She was an outspoken advocate for the marginalized and underrepresented, particularly the voice and presence of women in Architecture and made a lasting impact on our workplace and the profession.

Our thoughts are with Marjorie’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We are grateful for the time we shared with her and the many ways she enriched our lives.

As many of you know, Marjorie was an animal lover. In her honor, D+W has made a donation to @homewardboundanimals, a non-profit organization in Addison County VT that helps homeless animals. If you'd like to contribute as well, visit: https://www.homewardboundanimals.org/

We loved collaborating with @westwood_ps and our partners at @mlp_integrated_design to help shape the district’s Portrait of a Graduate—a shared vision defined by students, educators, and families.

High school students led the way in creating the final graphics, infusing the work with their creativity and insight.

We’re proud to have partnered with the Commonwealth, @massdfs, and @bondbuildingconstruction on the new Class A Burn Building for live-fire training at the MA Department of Fire Services’ Bridgewater campus. Featuring 11 burn rooms and realistic training scenarios, it’s designed to prepare firefighters for what they face in the real world.
