Once the Pre-Feasibility Study of the Needham Elementary Schools was complete, D&W helped the Town submit a Statement of Interest to the MSBA noting the Hillside School as a priority. The Study, respective of Hillside, included a review of potential options to resolve the overcrowding and aging facility issues. Options included additions and renovations to the existing school, designing a new school on the existing site, a study of potential swing space locations, and the option of a new school on an alternate site. Grade configuration considerations led to a review of the feasibility of one large school on an alternative site, as well as the option of constructing a new grade six school on a third site.
Needham later retained D&W to conduct an MSBA-funded Feasibility Study & Schematic Design for Hillside Elementary. The project explored three agreed upon enrollments based on half day/full day kindergarten and a K-5/Grade 6 configuration. The preferred option currently in Construction Documents is a new K-5 school with full day K for 430 students.
